Commercial interest on MDD as provider of MDD Tools and Services.
My experience of Model Driven Software Development:
I'm young and haven't so much baggage, but I'm working with MDD on the market.
I'm searching on MDD since 2004, when i was introduced to Domain Engineering-MDA-PLA in a master course in computer science on the university PUCRS (www.pucrs.br).
I published my master thesis "Features-Oriented Model-Driven-Architecture: Uma Abordagem para MDD" - in portuguese, and some full papers: in ISORC - 2006 in english and SBES 2007 in portuguese.
I'm working for four years in the software WorkCASE Toolkit (WCT), to give support to the FOMDA Approach and to apply a custom MDD tool for each perspective on software development process. I'm not rich, by I'm paying my own research ... so thanks, I'm brave.
In my point of view, MDD will work only if we provide a familiar tool to each user on a software production line. I have been teaching UML, C and Java technologies about seven years and gathered some experience. So, UML is difficult to teach and a UML profile is even worst ... MDA, as many people are thinking to use, will not work. But UML is good language to represent software artifacts. So, we are providing a more familiar tools than UML-profile approaches, following MDA, but masking the details.
I'm developing WCT to a non UML/MDA specialist and I know that it will be a long time to adapt WCT to all domains on software development. Another thing is that we are selling WCT on demmand, writing it to the customer needs, which seems to get more acceptance. Now we are waiting to see the market response, that initially seems good ... just not talk about "code generation" and the things get better :)
My company is a startup named "Adapit Soluções em TI" that has less than two years old. I created the Adapit to give support to MDD on software factories. We are focusing to deploy WCT only on brasilian software factories and by now we have information only in portuguese ... so sorry.
I think I could share some market experience in 2009, as we gained the first customers and started to introduce the MDD practices locally on Porto Alegre - Rio Grande do Sul.
