Shall I first and finally get the thing online before we start adding nifty features like EclipseUML, eerr. feature matrices? And I'll put feature matrices, err.. EclipseUML on the list. If it promises to generate code, of course. ;-)
Hopefully I can get it done before the end of the year, but I won't promise anything....

What about a searchable - or dynamic feature matrix?

It would enable one to search for, say, GUI/WEB or supporting specific target languages the tool is capable of.

Say, I would search for specific framework (P4A (PHP)), Java, C++ using wxWidgets and SharpDevelop/Visual Studio Express/Eclipse.

Tool P4A C++ wxWidgets Eclipse Java

Tool 1 X - - X -
Tool 2 X X - - -

Lothar, thanks for responding. There's two meanings to index I guess - the list on codegeneration.net is a static, alphabetical listing of code generation tools. What I am working on is an index that tells us (hopefully) which tools and techniques are most popular, on a month-by-month basis. I just wonder about creating another tooling index. I came to this group from a posting in the codegeneration forum.

They also have an index for tools: http://codegeneration.net/generators.php.

Probably only generators, but why another list?

And it is searchable.

I agree that tagging is better that categorization. With categorization you would get lots of overlaps. Then you would have to duplicate entries.

And then we could filter the list by one/two/three tags and get more specific views.

How about adding OOA Tool to the list. It is the only tool offering Shlaer-Mellor OOA/RD support at present (as well as Executable UML support).

I'm working on that, but I have to slightly modify the DSL that I generate it from. ;-)

Now that's a great idea! I was looking for a list like this for some time. And I hope you could maintain it in the foreseeable future.

As someone who is developing a tool to challenge all those systems on that list, the list itself becomes a very handy tool to measure the pulse of my own project.

Personally I think it will be a bit hard to decide which tools should be on that list. Are you going to consider targeted tools like those specific to web development or database-only applications? I think the list should be split into generic tools and targeted tools. But how to decide what should go where?

As for Delphino's site, if you want to take advantage of the publicity generated from the list, you should have your site in English, of course!...
